Falling (2019)

A meditation on the activity and passivity of the act of falling in love as a paradigmatic example of perceived inevitability, Falling draws its inspiration from a physical representation of a gravitational singularity. The funnel shaped surface of glass guides a pair of suspended light bulbs toward its nadir, where this fabric is breached, allowing for passage of reflected white light in a narrow beam. Use of red and blue glass replicates the traditional background palette of many medieval cathedral windows, drawing from this aesthetic spiritual association. Intensity of the blue sheet glass increases (though not wholly monotonically) with depth into the funnel, concomitant with a shift towards a greater proportion of red. This increase in color saturation mirrors an increase in perceived intensity and a phase shift in the thematic mentality.
